This is marble rather than travertine, which is the significant fact about it as paving and the reason the tumbled surface is not merely a stylistic choice. Marble is calcium carbonate, and rainwater is mildly acidic; over years an exposed marble surface therefore loses its finish slowly and evenly across the whole area. On a polished or honed face that shows as a gradual, patchy dulling. On a tumbled face there is no gloss to lose, so the same weathering registers as the stone simply settling into its surroundings. Outdoors, tumbled marble ages; polished marble deteriorates.

What marble gives in return is a tighter, denser body than travertine, with no open cavities to hold water or collect debris between cleanings.

The Versailles module arrives as a repeating group of formats in fixed proportion, so plan the layout from the module outwards and push the cuts to the perimeter. Use a sealer intended for exterior stone, lay to a fall, and keep de-icing salts and acidic patio cleaners off the surface entirely.
