Carrara White Honed Marble Hexagon Mosaic Tiles

A 48 mm face is large enough to carry a whole passage of veining rather than a fragment of one. Grey drift crosses individual hexagons and, because sheets are cut from across the block, continues from one piece into the next in a way the eye assembles into movement over a whole floor. That is the argument for the larger chip: at one inch the same stone reads as a plain field, and here it reads as marble.

Honing is what keeps it legible. A ground, unpolished face reflects evenly and holds the vein colour true, with no highlights to break the drift up and no abrasion to lighten it.

The finish is demanding in one respect. A level matte plane shows every irregularity in whatever lies beneath it, and on a mosaic the failure is lipping, where one sheet sits a fraction proud of its neighbour and raking light catches the step along a straight joint. A properly levelled, primed substrate matters more here than with a tumbled sheet, which forgives the same error. Seal before grouting, and clean with a neutral product only.
