The honed face is what makes the comparison hold. Ground level and left unpolished, it gives every rectangle a true edge, so the courses run dead straight and the offset stays crisp. A ceramic metro achieves that with a moulded edge; here it comes from the cut, and the difference shows at close range, where the stone's grain and veining carry across the arris rather than stopping at a glaze line.

The two marbles work as figure and ground. Carrara supplies a milky field with soft grey drift, and the Platinum pieces, more heavily veined and several steps darker, punctuate it. Because the bond steps half a unit each course, those darker pieces never line up vertically, so the wall keeps an even scatter instead of forming bands.

Honed marble is the least forgiving finish over a poorly prepared surface: any lipping between sheets catches the light along a straight joint. Set out on a flat, well-primed substrate. Both stones are calcitic and etch on contact with acid, so a neutral cleaner is the only thing that should ever touch them.
