Carrara White Polished Marble Brick Mosaic Tiles

Polishing a pale stone does something different from polishing a strongly coloured one. On a dark or heavily veined marble the process deepens colour and raises contrast; on Carrara there is little colour to deepen, so what increases is simply brightness. The milky ground gains luminosity while the soft grey drift stays soft. The result lifts the light level in a room without introducing a pattern that has to be looked at.

The format contributes to the same end. Each piece is small enough that the veining rarely crosses a whole one, so the grey reads as occasional shading rather than as figure, and the eye settles on the geometry of the bond instead. Every course reflects at a marginally different angle, which breaks a wall into a fine grid of highlights rather than one flat sheet of gloss.

It is a wall product first. A polished floor offers little grip where water collects, and the many joints in a small mosaic help without compensating. Carrara is calcitic and etches on contact with acid, which shows plainly on a reflective face.
