Herringbone mosaic tiles

Herringbone sets rectangular chips at right angles to each other so the pattern runs on a diagonal. On a wall it stretches the eye along the run; on a floor it does the same to a narrow room. We make it in Carrara White, Platinum Grey and Calacatta Sugar, honed and tumbled.

Because the pattern is directional, decide on site which way it should point before the first sheet goes up — turning it later means re-cutting. Sheets are laid in a staggered joint so the seams between them disappear into the pattern, and a fixer who dry-lays one run first will get the joins falling where you want them.
