The veining is the reason to choose it. Fine cream and white calcite runs through the brown in a dense, closely spaced network, and at tile scale that network reads as texture rather than as pattern, so you register a warm, finely worked surface before you register any individual vein. That makes it unusually easy to live with for a stone this characterful, since there is no single dramatic line to place or to avoid.

A brown ground also carries a practical advantage that is rarely mentioned. Limescale and dried water marks are pale, which is why they are so conspicuous on black marble and so plain on white; against a mid-brown stone they largely disappear. In a hard-water area, on a shower wall or around a basin, that is worth more than any sealer.

Polishing brings the honey and almond tones forward and gives the calcite veining a distinct sparkle against the surrounding brown. As with every marble, acid etching is chemical rather than superficial, and on a reflective face it shows as a dull patch that sealing cannot prevent.
