Platinum Grey Honed Marble Wall & Floor Tiles

Platinum Grey, honed, cut as a rectangular tile for walls and floors. It is the darker and busier of the two similarly named greys in the catalogue: where Platinum is a pale pearl crossed by a fine web, this one runs from icy white through silver to deep slate in a tightly fragmented figure, often described as crushed ice.

That high-frequency pattern behaves differently from a veined marble in three ways worth knowing before ordering. It cannot be book-matched, because there is no continuous figure to mirror. It hides small imperfections in a substrate and disguises the joints between tiles, since the eye is already occupied, which makes it forgiving on a large floor or an uneven wall. And it varies more from tile to tile than a plain stone does, so a dry run before fixing is the only reliable way to see what the finished surface will look like.

The tonal range is wide enough that the stone reads differently at different distances: close up it is white marble broken by dark fragments, and from across a room it settles into a mid grey.

Honing is the correct finish for it. A polish would layer reflections over an already complex figure and make the surface hard to read. Calcitic, so acids etch it, and cleaning should be neutral.
