Travertine Noche Versailles Pattern Paving Patio Tile Set

The Versailles module in Noche travertine, tumbled: the darkest stone offered as paving, running through cocoa, mocha and roasted chestnut where the other sets run cream and amber.

Colour is not a neutral decision outdoors, and it is the reason to choose this set over its paler siblings deliberately rather than by preference alone. A dark surface absorbs considerably more solar energy than a pale one, so a Noche terrace in full summer sun becomes warm underfoot in a way a beige one does not; in a shaded courtyard or a north-facing garden that same property is an advantage, since the stone dries faster after rain and holds warmth into the evening. Dark stone also shows pale mineral bloom more readily than light stone does, so if efflorescence appears while the bedding cures it will be visible for a season.

What you gain is depth that no pale paving can offer. Against planting, brick and timber, a dark floor recedes and lets everything above it come forward, which is why it suits a courtyard read as a room rather than a terrace read as a surface.

Noche's colour comes from iron in the original deposit and varies from tile to tile within the set. Being travertine it is porous: use an external sealer, re-treat periodically, and lay to a fall so water drains rather than standing.
