Mix Tumbled Travertine Hexagon Mosaic Tiles

The Mix sheet is a deliberate blend: two-inch travertine hexagons in ivory, sand and deep walnut, tumbled and combined on the same sheet rather than sorted into a single tone. It is chosen when a floor should look accumulated rather than specified.

That blend carries a practical consequence worth knowing before the first sheet goes down. Because the tonal spread is wide, the distribution across a small area is a matter of chance, and a run laid straight from the box can finish with the dark pieces clustered in one corner. Dry-laying several sheets and swapping pieces between them before fixing is the difference between a floor that looks composed and one that looks patchy. Ordering from a single batch matters more here than on a uniform product.

Travertine's colour range comes from iron and other minerals carried by the water that deposited it, which is why one bed runs cream and another runs chestnut; the Mix uses that natural spread instead of hiding it. Tumbling then pulls the palette together, knocking back the brightest ivories and warming the whole surface, so the result is more harmonious than the same pieces would be if sawn and honed.

Worn edges and open pitting give the finished floor a pronounced texture underfoot, and the many joints in a two-inch honeycomb add to it. Seal before grouting; the darker pieces in particular will hold pigment if they are left unprotected.
