Mix Honed Travertine Hexagon Mosaic Tiles

Tumbling abrades every face and pulls a wide palette together, knocking bright tones back and lightening dark ones. Honing does none of that. A level matte plane reflects light evenly, so the ivory stays ivory and the walnut stays walnut, and the tonal range across a sheet sits at its widest. That is the reason to choose this version: it is the one where the mix is legible as a mix rather than as a general warmth.

The consequence is that layout matters more here than on any uniform product. Open several boxes, dry-lay a couple of square metres and redistribute the darkest pieces by hand before anything is fixed. Sheets taken in order will cluster, and clustering on a high-contrast blend does not settle down once the grout has gone in.

Travertine's colours come from iron and other minerals dissolved in the water that laid the stone down, which is why one bed runs cream and another chestnut. A honed face also leaves the natural cavities open as clean-edged voids, so seal the sheets before grouting or those voids will hold pigment permanently.
