Platinum Grey Honed Hexagon Marble Wall & Floor Tiles

A mosaic arrives with its geometry already set on a sheet. A large hexagon is laid piece by piece, and every one of its six edges has to meet its neighbours accurately, so setting out starts from a centre line rather than from a wall and the perimeter is cut rather than fudged. Expect more waste than with a rectangular tile, because a hexagon meeting a straight wall always loses material; plan an overage accordingly.

What you get in return is a floor with no continuous grout line running in any direction. Rectangular tiles produce long straight joints that the eye follows and that draw attention to any wall out of square. A hexagonal grid offers no such line, so it disguises a room that is not truly rectangular, which is a common condition in older British houses.

Platinum Grey's fragmented figure suits the format. Icy white, silver and slate are distributed finely enough that each hexagon carries a complete sample of the stone rather than a fragment of a larger vein, so pieces sit together without needing to be matched. Honing holds it matte; the stone is calcitic, so acids etch it.
