Calacatta Nimbus Cloud Honed Marble Wall & Floor Tiles

Calacatta names a family rather than a single stone, and what its members share is a whiter ground and a bolder, more separated vein than Carrara carries. Where Carrara's grey drifts softly and continuously, a Calacatta vein arrives as a distinct event against a cleaner field. Nimbus Cloud takes that in a particular direction: the veining is diffuse at its edges and gathers into soft masses, which is what the name points at, so the effect is closer to weather than to drawing.

That form is worth planning for. A cloud figure is not directional, which makes layout easier than with a linear marble, but the density of the cloud varies between tiles more than a fine vein does. Set a full run out dry before fixing and distribute the heaviest tiles deliberately, or the wall will gather all its drama in one corner.

Honing keeps the greys true. Polishing would deepen them and add reflections that compete with an already busy figure. Like every marble in the Calacatta family it is calcitic, so acids etch it, and a sealer slows staining without preventing that.
