Selene Honed Marble Wall & Floor Tiles
Selene is a breccia, and that single word explains most of what the tile looks like. A brecciated stone is one that was broken apart and then cemented back together, its angular fragments held in a finer matrix and later metamorphosed, so the surface reads as shattered pieces held in place rather than as veins travelling across a ground.
Here the fragments run deep charcoal, midnight slate and stormy grey, and the matrix between them is icy white and silver. Honed to a level matte, the pattern stays sharp: every fragment has a defined boundary and the white network between them draws the geometry clearly.
The structure carries a practical advantage that veined marbles lack. A breccia has no direction. There is no vein to align, no grain to run out and no wrong way up, so tiles can be rotated freely, off-cuts return to the run, and setting out a complicated floor becomes much simpler. The trade-off is a busy figure, which works best where it is the only pattern in the room.
Because fragments and matrix differ slightly in hardness, a honed face can develop very faint relief on a floor in heavy use over many years; on walls it stays flat. The stone is calcitic throughout, so acids etch it and cleaning should be neutral.
