Honed stone wall and floor tiles

Most of the tile range is honed and nearly all of that is marble, in rectangular formats from 305 mm up to 1220 mm plus a run of large hexagons. The face is ground dead flat and left matt, and the sawn edge is kept square rather than eased, so two tiles can be butted to a joint of two or three millimetres without the line drawing attention to itself.

Finish counts for more at tile scale than at mosaic scale, simply because there is so much less grout to interrupt the surface. A honed floor laid in a large format reads as one continuous plane of stone, which is the effect most people are buying when they move up from mosaic sheets — and the matt face is what keeps that plane looking calm instead of bouncing every ceiling light back at the room.
